Berlin
Berlin has more than 3.7 million citizens and more than 6 million live in the metropolitan area. Berlin has the lowest number of cars per resident in Germany with 330 cars per 1000 citizens. Nevertheless, it is the (car) sharing capital of Germany with more than 3,000 shared cars and 500 shared L1E vehicles and an expected growth of 100% in 2019 in numbers of vehicles.
On 1st July 2022 there were 42,963 EVs registered in Berlin and around 2,500 L1e vehicles. There were 0.22 public charging stations per 1000 residents and 3.2 EVs per public charging station in 2018.

Current problems related to charging in the area
Only in 2019 2,500 more shared EV cars were introduced in Berlin abruptly increasing the charging demand which is not being met, mainly in the city centre. EV users spend a considerable amount of time and energy to find a usable charging station. On the other hand, there is very limited public space in the city centre for additional charging stations with corresponding parking slots. Current CPs have limited interoperability and offer no information to the user before and during the charging process.
